Good Morning

It currently is a bright sunny warm day, breezy (10-15 mph gusts to 30) day. It is a rest day for me @ Tomoka State park. I flew in here yesterday, having an 8 mph tail wind and tide in my favor, averaging 4 mph paddling. I reached nearly 5 mph at one point. Anyway I went the 19 miles in just over 4 hrs and got a campsite.

Getting the site was an act of God let me tell you. The park is booked solid, they just happened to get a cancellation that morning. He surely looks out for me! I booked 2 nights as the weather promised rain for today. Unless there is another cancellation I leave in the morning with winds at 10-15 with gusts to 20. We shall see.

So a recap since my last post. Thursday I made it to Elwinder Creek near Blanken’s Fl. All went well got out early and headed to Daytona, against the tide. Just as I passed Ponce DeLeon inlet the tide changed, so I was still paddling against it. I got to Port Orange around 3ish and looked for a camping spot. Not many choices and some were very unique. There were these wild sites on two of the islands with tree houses (I was afraid to climb into, or under) and gardens and… (all I could think of was hippies). Like someone or a group of folks lived there for a spell.

I chose the island with the 4 story tree house and started to set camp. This is where I realize I must have left my hammock tarps at the last spot. Not sure how I did that as I went through the site twice. Just not looking as well as I should have. Being exhausted it nearly broke my spirits. Thankfully I still had the tent. So after calming down and thinking it through I decided carry on. I want to beat Florida and get into Georgia. The interesting part is that while trying to get some pics of the tree house I found a Lowes style blue tarp. A bit too small for protection in a rain storm, but enough to keep the dew off.

That is all history, and I started this by telling you of yesterday, so no need to repeat. Today I get to rest, and dry out if it doesn’t 20% on me (20% chance of rain). Then it will be off in the morn. Only a short open area that might be a challenge, otherwise the channel should be narrow enough to offer some releif of the wind.

Thank you all for following, your support and most all prayers. Until next time, Au revoir.
