I don’t want to fight or sit out the weather

I finally got to the internet and got to post all my pictures, and that took hours of work. I can’t imagine how the youtubers can do this. It was fun reliving the time spent; I met many new people and made new friends. I hope you get over and see those shots (click on shots).

So, I am having fun and I am now into a rhythm, however with winds of 15 + mph predicted for 2 – 4 days at a time over the next 2 weeks, that isn’t fun for me. I can paddle against 10 – 15 mph winds so long as the channel is narrow and it isn’t head on, but there is some big water coming and the winds are predicted to be from the north. I think another 139 miles of paddling is an accomplishment I can hold high.

This is fun and I am experiencing some great things, meeting great folks, but I want to be safe and healthy. Peg and I have some plans I want to be sure and do. So today Peg will come down and pick me up. That will end my ICW tripping, so I can be with Peg who has been very supportive of my craziness.

I know I will be in areas that will allow me to do sections of the ICW in the future, but I won’t be trying another go at the remaining waterway. If I do other sections, or some of the other trips Peg and I have planned, they will be documented here.

Thank you all for following, commenting, your support and prayers.

  3. Doug, I think you made a good decision to move on. To me, that was beginning to look like not a fun adventure, but a feat of drudging endurance. You’ve seen some stuff, learned some stuff, but near as I can figure, if things continued as they’ve been, you’d wouldn’t get home until some time in May.
That’s an awful long time to be living every day really close to nature on brackish water, away from Peg, and if it were me, I’d want to use the time to try some other things, perhaps more varied or comfortable things.
C’mon home, have a safe trip, and we’ll see you back in Virginia. (Daffodils are blooming!)

  6. Doug,

we are glad we got to see you on your adventure and I applaud your spirit yet I appreciate your decision to postpone the adventure as weather is such an important factor! I just couldn’t help but include that Diane and I stopped through St Augustine a week ago to check in with a boat club captain exactly where you are, or were if already left….Comachee Harbor Marina and the Inn at Comachee Harbor, Freedom Boat Club has vessels there and I recently joined them so I can use their boats, we will be getting familiar with that area soon.

Hope your travels home go well, thanks for visiting us in Fl, look forward to seeing you again, probably in Va!

    God bless, Richard and Diane
