Today we traveled from Palmyra to Fairport to meet friends and continue to Pittsford. The day started out wet again, but once we hit Fairport the rain/drizzle stopped. Still a bit overcast but dryer. Finally remembered about my Navionics app on my phone. Although I didn’t need it for navigation as such it gave me travel info (times, speed, ETA’s and the like) that helped in planning.
There were few new wildlife sightings, more deer than before and less eagles. Boat traffic started to pick up, and instead of just locks we had a lift bridge to navigate. I now know they are serious about waiting for the green light (was ordered to stop the boat, when I started too early), now I wait for the all clear. I mean the lift was plenty high enough but they want it to lock in place before we proceed, lesson learned. We had a great visit with our friends Bruce and Linda.
Day 6 was a great day, sunny and light breeze, and friendships old and new. We traveled back to Fairport (I waited for the green at the lift bridge) had lunch and we had to say good bye. We spent a bit too much time together, so Peg and I knew we wouldn’t make the locks in time (they close @ 6PM). So together we had to recalculate the trip back to Waterloo. Not much of a change, just a new stop in Macedon (none in Palmyra) then on to Lyons to get back on schedule. The Lyons leg will be a bit longer than we like, but visiting made it worth it.
We met some new friends in Macedon who had just purchased a solar powered Narrowboat, and were out on it. It travels a little slower than we can (4ish MPH vs our 5 MPH), we heard about it’s history (having done the Great Loop by it’s previous owner), some of the boats plusses and minuses. The we talked about travel, scouts and our lives in general. A great way to end a day – All the best to Reece and Andrea happy boating.
