Update and New Page: My Gear
So I am still at Manatee Hammock campground in Titusville Florida. Sunday was a wet rainy (Rainy day Sundays always get me down) morning and then again in the early evening. Apparently there was a bad twister(?) in the Jacksonville area and we felt some of the effects. I weathered the storm (mainly dry) and got up

Rest day #2
Today was a banner day. Started with hash and eggs for breakfast and then off to meet a new friend. Luke had left a message on my kayak about meeting, however I missed him last night and so we connected this morning. He was wondering if I would be around long as he has a

The first rest day
Today is a beautiful day. Walked to Publix and got some groceries and more Naproxen Sodium for my wrist, it feels better but still hurts when carrying or putting much weight on it. It is still swollen, red and hard to the touch. So I am extending my rest through tomorrow. Hopefully that will allow me to be okay

Good evening all
I am now 2nd day into my trip. Left Melbourne Beach around 8 yesterday, traveled 16 miles against the wind but made it to my goal destination. Nothing to note about yesterday other than the wind, and my right hand is in pain. Today however was much better. Little wind in the morning, fading to

One more try
So, if at first you don’t succeed …. I am going to give it a second go at completing my quest. This brought back so many memories of my first trip down – as soon as my older brother and I were old enough – middle school – my Dad fulfilled his lifelong dream of paddling the Allagash – we put it in on one of the upper lakes. First memories are us all sleeping under one tarp – no tent – waking up with 1000 mosquitoes perched right over our faces. And also catching dozens of brook trout into the evening on what became bare hooks – at a stream coming in. While we were dragged on this of course I ended up with several boats, doing tons of whitewater and canoe trips through out my life – and now have the light Souris River kevlar/fiberglass 17 so I can keep going alone in my old age – now 71. Ended up on one of my parents 3 week arctic trips before grad school back in 1977. Every time my Dad saw another person on a trip in Maine he would go 100 miles further north and that’s how he got to the arctic. My older sister and husband have continued to do dozens of them.
