Contrasting days work
Wednesday was a beautiful day, with 10mph head wind, and the tide against me at the end of the day. So no 20 miles that I had hoped. I did get 15 by paddling (and resting 3 times) for 7.5 hours. It was tough and I was exhausted. The scenery is really nice, nice homes

Short Paddle
Today was a windy day but clear and warm. I made a reservation at Gambel Rogers state park in Flagler (6 miles away) in case the wind was too bad. I got to the park with some work but planned to continue on. However Mark and his wife Betty asked me to lunch, so I

Reaquaintance
Back at Manatee Hammock campground I met 2 musicians John and Mary. They play mainly Celtic music. Well today I heard someone playing Oh Shenandoah and went over. You guessed it, John and Mary. So we caught up a bit and laughed about how small this world can really be. I gave them the name

Good Morning
It currently is a bright sunny warm day, breezy (10-15 mph gusts to 30) day. It is a rest day for me @ Tomoka State park. I flew in here yesterday, having an 8 mph tail wind and tide in my favor, averaging 4 mph paddling. I reached nearly 5 mph at one point. Anyway

ON the water again! Whoot! Whoot!
So Thursday at 1:33am SpaceX had a launch. I’ll post the video when I am near power and possibly WiFi. Anyway, I was up, the group had dispersed and there was NO wind. I packed up, dilligently not quickly and got on the water @ 5am. It was a 21 mile day. A light head

Life at the campground
Another windy day today 30 plus mph, so I am still grounded. I thought I would show you some pics of the campground, and its visitors. First some of the friends that pass through: Here is a pic of another camper I thought was cool: You can get more of his story on Facebook; lookup Milk Truck

This brought back so many memories of my first trip down – as soon as my older brother and I were old enough – middle school – my Dad fulfilled his lifelong dream of paddling the Allagash – we put it in on one of the upper lakes. First memories are us all sleeping under one tarp – no tent – waking up with 1000 mosquitoes perched right over our faces. And also catching dozens of brook trout into the evening on what became bare hooks – at a stream coming in. While we were dragged on this of course I ended up with several boats, doing tons of whitewater and canoe trips through out my life – and now have the light Souris River kevlar/fiberglass 17 so I can keep going alone in my old age – now 71. Ended up on one of my parents 3 week arctic trips before grad school back in 1977. Every time my Dad saw another person on a trip in Maine he would go 100 miles further north and that’s how he got to the arctic. My older sister and husband have continued to do dozens of them.
