Short Paddle

Today was a windy day but clear and warm. I made a reservation at Gambel Rogers state park in Flagler (6 miles away) in case the wind was too bad. I got to the park with some work but planned to continue on. However Mark and his wife Betty asked me to lunch, so I visited with them and decided to stay. It was a nice day and good conversation.

I learned yesterday that the islands I have been staying on are dredge waste. That is why many of the islands look like donuts in the satilite views. The center of the island doesn’t have the organic material to support plant life. The tide delivers it to the edges and with time it will work its way to the center.

I finally got a good idea of my mileage thus far. According to my navigation software I have gone 91 nautical miles. That assumes I used the channel, which I don’t. I estimate the actual distance thus far is between the 91 and 100, adding due to traveling a shore line instead of the channel. Tomorrow I hope to do 20ish.

Thanks for following.

  1. What do you do with your down time? Do you have books or electronic books with you? Just curious! Ruth
