Erie Canal day 2

Sunday (oops had to coreect this from Saturday) night was a wet one.  We got up fairly early but took our time starting the day, 9AM-ish and we are off.  Rain has let up for now.  We traversed the next two locks in short order and like pros.  It really went smooth, and Peg is feeling more confident at it.

We traveled across the top of Cayauga Lake, past Lock #1 then onto the Erie Canal proper.  The other canal (Seneca / Cayauga canal) is a spur.

From lock 1 to the Erie lock 25 we traveled through the Montezuma National wildlife refuge.  We saw many birds, some we seldom see (sometimes during migration) as well as familiar ones.  We saw Baltimore Orioles, Tanagers, assorted ducks, Bald Eagles, Osprey, plus Great Blue and Green Herons.  It is fun to travel at a slow pace and be able to actually look around and take pictures.

We had a few rain showers throughout the day.  Mainly when arriving at a lock, or just leaving.  We made it to lock 27 (Lyons NY), for the night, a rainy stay but safe.  Hamburgers, potatoes and salad for dinner.  Stay dry and Bon Apitite y’all.
