Days 7 and 8

Day 7 we traveled from Macedon to Lyons.  A beautiful, but hot day (temps over 80), sunny and otherwise quiet.  We started to think about lessons learned, as well as planning for ’26 and the UK.  We need to bring binoculars (bird watching would have been easier), we liked our boat but AC would be nice.  Meal planning needs to be thought out better.  Peg and I need to look into sights to be seen.

We did get off the boat in Newark; Peg was looking for the Jackson and Perkins roses.  Unfortunately, Newark, NY didn’t preserve any.  But we did find a clock museum that was quite facinating.  I’ll post pictures soon.

We got to Lyons and docked as we did before.  Then there was knocking on the bottom of the boat.  We never did acertain what was causing it.  We theorized that it was Grass Carp (fish) feeding on the algee covered boat bottom.  It took us some time to work it out, so we got a restless sleep.

Day 8 was spectacular.  Sunny and a pleasant 75ish day with a light breeze.  We saw some birds and determined the bright yellow birds we kept seeing were Yellow Warblers and there were many Tree Swallows about.  We were traveling back to Seneca Falls and we passed through the Montezuma preserve again.  During that leg of the trip we saw egrets, herons, eagles (and their nests), and osprey.

There was some boat traffic today, but nothing like the James.  The speed limit here is 10 MPH.  With the current and the wind behind us we flew at 5.4 MPH for most of the day.

I would recommend this trip to anyone.  It has been fun and relaxing.  The locks might seem daunting, but by taking your time they are easy.  They were actually fun, each having their own character.

I’ll be posting pictures of the contact info at the end of the trip. along with the competition (our boat is his only boat, ans he books up).

Tomorrow we return the boat and head home.  Once there I can easily get my photos (and Peg’s) together and finish documenting our trip.

Thanks for reading and staying with us.  God bless.

  1. So glad you guys are having such a great trip! Sounds like this would be a great idea for a boat trip on the Thames!
